Previous work

Four recent jobs, start to finish.

What was there before, what we did about it, and how long it took. Between them these four cover most of what we get called out for.

Consumer unit replacement

A 1980s board with rewireable fuses and no RCD anywhere on it. The owner had been told by two other electricians that it needed doing, and neither had come back with a price.

We replaced it with an 18th Edition board carrying its own RCBO on every circuit, so a fault in one place no longer takes out the rest of the house. No rewiring was needed, which is often the thing people fear most about this job.

Ceiling and wall lighting

New pendant fittings over the dining table and through the living room, plus wall lights either side of the chimney breast. The existing circuits were sound, so the new fittings went onto those rather than starting again.

That mattered here. New cable would have meant chasing channels into the walls, dust through the whole flat and replastering afterwards. The owner wanted the room back the same week, so working with what was already there saved all of it.

EV charger installation

A 7kW charge point on the side of the house for a new car. Before quoting we checked the incoming supply and the existing board could carry it alongside a shower and an electric hob.

They could, so the unit went on its own dedicated circuit with the correct protection, and the installation was notified to the network operator as the rules require. Had the supply not been up to it, we would have said so before anybody bought a charger.

Bolton

Workshop lighting replacement

Failing fluorescent battens the full length of a commercial unit. Half of them were flickering and two had stopped altogether, which is a genuine safety problem in a space where people use machinery.

Swapped for LED throughout. We did it over a weekend so nothing had to close, and the running cost of the lighting dropped as a side effect of fixing the actual problem.
